Journal # 1 The Kite Runner

In “The Kite Runner” it shows us the struggle and determination that people go through to live a better life; or to make life better for their children. This struggle is not only in Afghanistan, it happens all over the world. “Life here is impossible for us now Agha sahib. We’re leaving.” Pg 112 Ali says this because he has to move not only to survive but to give Hassan a better life.

I can relate to this because my father had move to make a better life for me and my family. “The Kite Runner” also reminds us how long their people have been struggling to overcome the forces of violence, forces that threatens them still today. Hassan is a small servant boy who faces many of everyday challenges, because of his race he gets bullied verbally and physically. Throughout the story it shows many ways that the boys fathers try their best to make there life better and safer then their own. In conclusion the more strength in a family can make a child’s life better and much safer.

Where The Wild Things Are
Comparison Story to Movie

Spike Jonze directed a comical interpretation of the children’s story “Where The Wild Things Are” by Maurice Sendak. In The story of Max, a little boy who takes a journey to a land of “Wild Things”. As Max’s thoughts come together, his bedroom is changed into an entirely new world. When he sails to the land of the Wild Things, they quickly make him their ruler. The Wild Things are tamed under Max’s leadership and enjoy a "wild time" planned by Max. In the end Max leaves the land of the Wild Things, despite their love he returns home where he finds his dinner and mother waiting for him.

As for the movie, Spike Jonze changes the story, Max escapes to a land populated by majestic, and sometimes fierce, creatures known as the Wild Things. In the movie Max actually runs away to a small little ship that he finds in a small bush by the sea. The Wild Things allow Max to become their leader, and he promises to create a kingdom where everyone will be happy.

After several days Max soon finds that being the king is not easy, and that his relationships with the Wild Things are much more complicated than he originally thought. After all the fight and anger between the “Wild Things” Max decides to take his ship back to the small bush and return home.

The movie captured all the details left out in the story. Overall I think the movie was a big help to the children’s storybook and the story will be kept alive many more years to come.
